Landscape and Memory

Wandering around Steep, you could be forgiven for forgetting the everyday issues affecting modern life. Here are some reminders, cultural traces, that even this poetic landscape is unable to shake off. Meaning and memory in landscape are constantly being ebbed away by the flow of modernity. To slow time down, landscape is memorialised, and narrated, given blue-plaque status and national importance. It is re-walked and re-written, re-remembered, then forgotten. The later photographs show this memory work in action.
